When the first rays of the sun prickled her awake, Seo Hyun suddenly became aware of two things. One, there was a heart beating under her ear which would only mean that, if logic didn’t fail her, her face was resting on someone’s chest. Two, the person whose heart was beating under her ear clearly disliked being fully clothed while sleeping, as his chest was, she realized in embarrassment, naked.

A bit disoriented, Seo Hyun tried to wiggle out but it seemed that the person had no intention of letting her go. She felt his arms tightened around her waist, his hold unyielding. Like ice cream on summer, she felt herself melting from the inside. But it was winter. And she was burning.

Her face flamed; the cold trickle of embarrassment was slowly seeping through. Seo Hyun squeezed her eyes shut, pretending to be asleep.

The person beside her shifted, allowing a little space between them for breathing.

“Hyu~un,” the person spoke in a raspy voice. Seo Hyun felt her heart rammed hard against her chest. “Seo Joo Hyun, I know you’re awake.”

That voice. Seo Hyun knew very well who that voice belonged to; it strummed a chord in her too deep, too familiar that the tension she felt subsided. Stubbornly, though, she kept her eyes close as a giggle threatened to erupt from her mouth, making her lips tremble.

“If you don’t wake up,” he teased, his hands fumbling playfully on her waist. “I’ll tickle you.”

Seo Hyun snickered; that didn’t seem so much of a threat.

“Using my lips.”

With that, Seo Hyun’s eyes flung open, and looked up, in time to see Jung Yong Hwa’s mischievous smirk. “Ya!” A resounding smack landed on his chest.

Yong Hwa yelped, pretending to be in pain. “Aish. When did you get to be so violent?”

Seo Hyun fretted as she saw a faint red mark slowly becoming visible on his naked chest. “Mianhae, Yong… Does it hurt?”

“Ne. Here,” he said, grabbing her hand and holding it against his chest, looking at her with such warmth that Seo Hyun felt her sanity edging off a cliff. Her senses suddenly became acutely sensitive to the mass of muscle under her hands, of the pulsating heat emanating from it, drowning her with his scent.

“Yong… I, uh, we need to, I mean, you need to go now,” Seo Hyun stuttered, pulling herself up in a sitting position. Yong Hwa pressed his lips together to keep himself from laughing. “Ya! What’s funny?”

“You are,” he chided as he gently pushed her back on the bed, locking her again in his arms.

“Ya! Let me go.” Her lips were slightly parted, an invitation for him to decide. The moment he lowered his lips to meet hers, he gasped at the unsettling sensation that churned at his pit. Very softly, he parted her lips with his tongue.

Seo Hyun clung to him with both hands. A slow fire was spreading within her and exploded into tiny little sparks, stimulating every nerve endings in her body. He took her slowly, nibbling at her lower lip, trailing light pecks around it. A moan escaped her lips as she felt his fingers trailing over her shoulder, down her arm, and tugged at the hem of her camisole.Red lights flashed in Seo Hyun’s head as she grabbed his hand before it went any further.

“Yong…” Seo Hyun dragged her eyes open in time to see him gazing at her, his eyes darkened to a midnight shade. Embarrassed, she pushed him away gently. “You really need to go. It’s New Year’s day. They’re all probably looking for you.”

“They? Who?” He still had her trapped in his arms.

“Uh, people from your company?”

He slid his fingers in her hair and arched her head back. “Right now, those people are busy moving in to our new building to even notice my absence.”

Seo Hyun’s eyes lit up. “Wah! You’re moving in today!”

“Yes, we’re officially neighbors. You know what that means?”

An unwilling smile curved her lips. “Hmm… I wonder.”

“It means,” Yong Hwa teased her, his lips felt like butterfly wings fluttering against hers. “You have to get used to sleeping with someone other than that tattered teddy bear I gave you.”

“But I love this bear!” Seo Hyun exclaimed, grabbing the bear Yong Hwa gave her three years ago.

“More than you love me?”

“Aigoo, choding.”

“Hyun…”

“Ne?”

“Last night…”

Seo Hyun sighed loudly. “Ah, not again. I told you already. I’m fine with what happened. I mean, it’s my first time MC-ing! Boom oppa, and Hwi Jae oppa, they’re probably awkward around me, too, but it’s fine, really. And that dress was really long; anyone could have stepped on it.”

“Rapper Hyun,” Yong Hwa mused.

Annoyed, she pulled herself up in a sitting position, breaking free from his hold. “But you kept blaming Hwi Jae oppa last night! Can’t you just tell me I did a good job MC-ing? I mean, I did great, right?”

Yong Hwa sat up and hugged her from behind, his lips pressed warmly on her bare shoulder. “That’s what I was about to say.”

“Really?”

“Really.” Yong Hwa could feel a smile creeping on her face. “You are always good in everything you do, Hyun. Didn’t even seem like it was your first. I just felt bad because I knew you felt a bit uncomfortable about your co-hosts. That’s a normal feeling, right? What would you expect me to feel while I was watching your dress getting stepped on? You might have fallen down, God forbid! He should’ve been extra careful.”

“But it turned out fine, fortunately, so stop feeling bad already.”

“You’re too kind, Hyun.”

“Aigoo,” she cooed, turning to face him, her face an inch away from his. “My protective boyfriend. Which reminds me, I didn’t see much of this handsome face on stage last night. Where were you?”

“Behind Jung Shin.”

“I wanted to see you on stage, though.”

“Why?”

“Seeing you would have calmed me down,” Seo Hyun pouted. “But it’s okay. You were there with me on New Year’s countdown, so I’m happy. That means we’re gonna be together for the rest of the year, right?”

“Not only this year, but for the years to come…” Yong Hwa held her hands and put it against his chest. “I really love you, Hyun. Really. So much.” Every time he confesses his love for Seo Hyun, Yong Hwa feels frustrated because words couldn’t seem to contain the entirety of his emotions.

Seo Hyun entangled her fingers with his, feeling the fast pace of his heartbeat. “I know. I love you just as much, Yong.”

Yong Hwa was beaming; she swore she could hear the smug smile on his face.

“Seo Joo Hyun, I’m going to marry you one day, you know.”

“Is that a promise, Jung Yong Hwa?”

“Aren’t you scared of promises?”

“You’ve never broken a single promise you’ve made.”

“Then, if you want it to be, yes. It’s a promise, Seo Joo Hyun.”

He leaned closer, their faces drawn near, and he felt the heat of her breath mingling with his. Closing his eyes, a memory of a hundred other kisses crossed his mind. At the same time, leaving him at awe that none of it ever came close to when he kissed Seo Hyun. When her lips grazed on his, he knew he was lost again.

For Seo Hyun, kissing Yong Hwa had always been magical. How else would she describe the thousand butterflies fluttering in her stomach, or smelling the scent of spring on a wintry morning?

Meeting him, too, had been magical as well. What were the odds that she’d wrap her towel around him when they asked him who she was going to be partnered with on that wedding show? Their love story probably was too farfetched to believe; she wouldn’t even have believed it herself had it been some other couple’s story. But in a million years, the same thing would probably never happen again, and with odds like that, she knew she was more than lucky.

A bit breathless, Yong Hwa pulled away and got up, grabbing Seo Hyun by the hand. Looking out the window, he pressed his body against hers. “You see that window over there?” He asked pointing at one of the closed windows of the building two blocks across the street. “That’s going to be my room.”

“Really?”

“We can wave at each other, see? You’ll see me from there.”

Seo Hyun reached for his hand and held it tightly. “Yong, komawo.”

“For what?”

“For… this,” she gestured vaguely around them. “For us.”

A tear edged at Yong Hwa’s eyes, the beauty of the moment overwhelming him. “Hyun… I have a song for you.”

As a girl, Seo Hyun believed that an ideal man exists, just like in childhood stories - the prince charming, or the knight in shining armor. In the real world, though, men like that simply didn’t exist. Yong Hwa was far from being a prince with his rough ways, but he was a real man with real emotions. He was always sincere, and that had always been enough for her. “Sing it for me.”

And he did. He sang, because every time he did, it was like courting her again. He sang, because every time he did, she would fall in love with him again, just like she had a long time ago. He sang, because for him, there was nothing as wonderful as having her fall in love with him over and over again.

♫ Oh, her eyes, her eyes, make the stars look like they're not shining. Her hair, her hair, falls perfectly without her trying. She's so beautiful, and I tell her every day. ♫
