Can't believe *I* forgot things like the Friends hymnals and Rise Up Singing...let alone beloved picture books...and All of a Kind Family too. I also love my cookbooks, maybe especially my More with Less ones from Mennonite Central Committee with all the sayings and anecdotes.

So what'd you think of The Emperor's Winding Sheet? And did you ever read JPW's Fireweed?

...And finally, for some children the Friends schools are not just a chance at a "unique" or "exceptional" education or a slightly or even tremendously better option than their local public school...for some children, including my own, it is practically their only chance at any kind of education. Due to his unique learning needs, my child's psyche would have been irreparably damaged by the Philadelphia public school system or probably even by a suburban system had we uprooted our whole lives and moved out there. Home schooling would have been barely doable but would have been very inadequate since what my son most needs, and what I can't provide, is social skills. Furthermore, although I love sharing knowledge and exploring various avenues with him and do it plenty, me having to live up to Pennsylvania's rules for homeschooling would have set me up in an adversarial relationship with him from time to time--"you must finish this paper" and so forth--which is not conducive to either learning or to a good parent-child relationship.
