And Indigo

More fun with henna and indigo ahead!

So the henna developed overnight, and turned a lovely dark brown color, kind of like chocolate pudding.

See?  You can also see my pretty blue glove.

Indigo powder that has traveled far more extensively than I have.

Indigo powder in the bowl.  I didn't weigh this because it comes in 100 gram packets, and I need 100 grams to get a 2:1 indigo to henna ratio.  Though in this case, that ratio is skewed by the extra henna I added.

When mixing the indigo, you can use plain water instead of a weak acid.  I don't know why.

This is the indigo, all nicely mixed.  I meant to take an in-process picture so you could see how lumpy it was at one point, but I forgot.  (Forgot, and didn't want to indigo my camera.)  I use a plastic fork to mix both the henna and the indigo because it's very easy to get the lumps out by gently smooshing them against the bottom of the bowl.  I also use a glass bowl because that makes it easy to see when everything is all mixed in.

Henna and indigo:  BFFs!

Mixing the henna and indigo together.

Henna/indigo!  The consistency is like a thick cake batter, or Greek yogurt.

Smearing this stuff on your hair is basically like smearing mud on your hair.  So fun, but messy.

My goal here is to get just the roots, because the rest of my hair has already been tinted and I am finding that reapplying the henna/indigo mixture results in the tips of my hair darkening to near-black, which isn't what I'm going for.

My head, wrapped in plastic wrap.

YEAH.

And this is how much I have left.  Local people:  COME TO MY HOUSE IF YOU WANT SOME.  Seriously, there is enough here to cover at least one other person's hair, maybe two if that hair is short.  I also have hot cocoa.
