5/12/14:  I met Vesuvius today.  We had to be up and out at an ungodly hour (6:30 for breakfast, 7 am departure) and I am sooo not a morning person, but I catapulted out of bed with my first alarm.  Today was the reason for this trip.  My only complaint had to do with the pace. Neither Vesuvius nor Pompeii disappointed.
