Read it if you haven't already. It'll take you like 3 hours (for those long, sleepless nights?). If youth is truely wasted on youth, then how can non-youths (formerly youths) look back and learn? Like you said, the knowledge you have gained thus far in life is invaluable, so I think it's much better to cherish rather than let it become yet another concern.
In terms of being genuine and honest ... well, expressing gratitude for that matter, a simple "thank you," in my eyes, is sufficient as long as you truely feel that way. "Treat others how you would like to be treated." Pretty idealistic, isn't it? Give people a chance and you'll be surprised at how well they'll treat you. And if it seems as if another's not being completely upfront, don't let it bug you too much (yeah, it's that easy (sarcasm)). People worry so much about how others think and feel about them and never take the time to really enjoy themselves for who they are.

Henry Nam,
You can use as many cliches as you want. The brilliant Elkassabany might even say that one could use a plethora of cliches. I have not read said book, and one day will, maybe soon... and maybe when I'm at that stage in my life. We shall see! And, when that time comes, I will let you know, wherever you may be. One might be on a boat, but if I may recall, death is not a boat.
And on a boat note, I spent an awfully long time (oh, was it awful) worrying about how and what others thought about me, and in those thoughts, I truly lost sight of myself - specifically the good in myself. Truth be told, I regret wasting that time, but in time, times have changed, and I would like to say I no longer do such things,.... but there are episodes and in-betweens.
I also agree with the thank you remark. More importantly, thank you for taking the time to respond to my long-winded, nonsensical entries. I appreciate it.
Enjoy your Tuesday... even if there's no older men named Morrie playing a role in it.
