It's hard to balance seeing a TON of stuff and feeling rested/relaxed! We really wanted an early start this morning, but also really wanted to sleep in. We ended up getting out the door a little after 9.
-Pizza for breakfast. We haven't had much pizza in the city, but have fallen in love with the pizza at A Slice Of NY. It's not too far from the hotel and it's awesome! I was so happy when Chris mentioned (while we were getting ready) that he was craving pizza since I had had the SAME thought a few moments earlier. After ordering/eating, NEITHER of us were disappointed!
-Empire State Building. We jumped on the Grey Line Downtown tour which took us toward downtown. We got off at the fourth stop in order to go to the observation deck of the Empire State Building. We had done Top of the Rock last night and I worried it would be redundant, but I actually loved seeing the views at night and during the day. Our CityPass tickets also came with the audio tour, which was really helpful! I felt like a dork walking around with an 80's style cell phone up to my ear, but the commentary was super.
-We got back on the tour bus, rode it through the West Village (SO cute!!) and Soho. We got off in the financial district and walked to the 9/11 memorial. It was interesting because I felt more 'moved' just walking around the streets than when we were actually looking at the pools. It was SUCH a pain to get into that I had a hard time getting back into a reflective mood. I'm glad we went. But, walking around the streets down there (both before and after we were at the memorial) felt really eerie to me. Such an unbelievable event.
-Getting back on the tour bus was crazy. There were tons of people and not very many spaces, so everyone was crowding to get on. This adorable, unassuming old Indian/Pakistani woman was next to me and pushing me like crazy! She looked super naive, but I heard her talking to her companion about "cutting" and she was using her foot and elbow to do anything she could to get in front of me. Unfortunately for her it didn't work.
-We finished the downtown loop tour: through China Town, saw the Tenement Museum, Little Italy, Wall Street, United Nations, Waldorf-Astoria, etc. and got off at Rockefeller Center.
-The Lion King on Broadway. So well done; really fun. I got teary-eyed at the end (as we were clapping/cheering) feeling so grateful that I was at a broadway show and had gotten that experience.
-Appetizers/Drinks at The Iron Bar Grill. Chris wanted to watch the Sunday Night Football game and it was the first place we saw with a TV. They have a cool couch/table area with a huge flat screen. We watched the first half there and then left (because I wanted dinner and didn't want to eat anything else there).
-We walked to Trattoria TreColori in hopes that they had a TV (to finish watching the game), but also some nicer food. They had both! But, the kitchen was closing in two minutes. We literally ordered food while still standing by the front door. We had (and shared everything) caprese salad, caesar salad, gnocchi with eggplant and mozzerella, and tortellini with peas and procuitto. Everything was sooooo good!!
-Frozen custard at The Shake Shack. Yum!!
-Now, watching the 4th quarter of the game while laying in bed.
