Radio Imaging! And you can hear. :)

Well, I haven't posted here a lot lately... Mostly because I've been pretty busy and focused.  A great deal of my time is spent auditioning.  A LOT more time is spent auditioning than actually being behind the mic - but ask any voice over talent about that, and they'll tell you the same thing.  That's just a part of the biz.  I still love it. ;)  I ( Read more... )

I really have to bite down and learn the process for voice overs. I've been told I have the ability and the voice for some of the types of work out there. And since Wayne has been having fun with recording stuff we have the equipment. I should go back to your site and browse again I seem to remember It had some really good info for beginners. Also, keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the finger-crossing, Heather! :) As for getting into voice overs, it's not an easy business, but it surely can be a lot of fun. Takes some doing to get started though ...

For more info, http://www.voiceoversandvocals.com/resources.html on my website can help. And you can also check out The Voice Over Entrance Exam by Peter O'Connell (at http://www.audioconnell.com/index.php?src=gendocs&ref=thevoiceoverentranceexam&category=workshop), one of the voice over "good guys" out there. It's well worth going through and gives some "straight up" about what's needed to get into this business.

Fingers crossed (and as my German friends say "thumbs pressed"!)

If you'd mentioned Amman last week, I'd have looked blankly at you ... and then one of my friends (and work colleagues) who got stuck in the UK due to the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud, rerouted his trip to Kathmandu and so last Wednesday it was London->Paris on Channel Tunnel train, Paris->Barcelona on overnight sleeper train, then Thursday flight to AMMAN, JORDAN! (and from there on to New Delhi and on up to Nepal, using smaller and smaller aircraft!)

Fabulous news, and I'm all agog waiting for more good news from you!

Thanks! :) Yup. Jordan is one of two Arabic states that I believe is friendly to the West (Saudi Arabia being the other, I think?). All the folks I've dealt with over at that radio station have been perfectly lovely. And in fact, I was suggested to them by another voice talent in New York who was working with them - and still does regularly. I'm extremely grateful for her generosity in thinking of me for this ( ... )

Actually many of the states around there are Western friendly, such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman etc. though I realise that the US news channels try to hide that :-)

(Dubai and Abu Dhabi are both on the F1 Grand Prix circuit and really happy to show off their wealth/attract investors!)

I've found both musicians and magicians are pretty good about saying "sorry, I can't play your party/wedding/product launch, but here's the number of someone I can recommend ..." ... I wonder if it's just insecure actors :-)

But I'm really glad you've found an industry that is warm and supportive, I'm very envious (if you know someone is looking for a male English accent, let me know! ;)
