If..."If we make it big, what'll you spend your first paycheque on?" Billy asked, looking over at where Joe was sprawled out on his stomach on the floor, scribbling words across a napkin he'd found on the counter earlier ( Read more... )

"It's always the little things that matter..." She muttered, dropping the little digital organizer onto the bed, gettingup and walking over to look out the window. Nothing but people, traffic, rushing around in their own oblivious world. Gods what she wouldn't give to just fit in. She'd hoped that coming into Canada would fare better than the US had... She'd long since given up on trying to explain her story or how she got there. It was pointless.

She went back to the little digital organizer, browsing over to her own discarded journal. Of course, she'd had to have been stupid and neglect the random messages for so long... they'd stopped coming, no more questions to answer. no more contact.

That was until today when she'd stumbled across his page. A somewhat familiar face... If you can call one chance meeting in a bar familiar. What were the chances he'd remember her? Slim to none, but she sat down and sent off the text message anyway.

Joe remembered. It was sort of hard for anyone to forget a woman who looked like Kara Thrace, but it was even harder to forget her when she's given you a blowjob at the bar while other people stood around and watched. He hadn't expected to hear from her again and the message was a bit of a surprise, but not unwelcome. He read it, looking a bit amused, then fired a message off in return.

"Hey. I remember. An elephant never forgets and all that shit. How've you been?

An innocent message. There was Billy now and Joe wouldn't fuck that up again, but he had to wonder why she was messaging him now after all this time.

Still pretty fuckin lost... but I get by. Just wanted to at least touch base with a familar face, not many of those around.

It had been over a year and she missed home like hell now.. but it wasn't as if she could go back. Standing on the walkway outside the run down motel room, she hit send, looking up at the night sky.

Joe read the message, then smoked a cigarette and talked with Billy for a few minutes before sending her a message back. It was weird, the way the guilt came back, even though Billy hadn't been around then.

Still in Boston? his message read, and he lit up another cigarette and sat back on his couch to pretend to watch TV as he waited for an answer.
