Why should people hate Cho Chang? I hope people don't hate her because of her colour either because I happen to be Vietnamese, but technically I'm 1/8 Chinese :P I'm glad they wrote Cho Chang in the books
I was glad when we first met Cho Chang in book three. I am suspecting that many hate her for her colour, as some of the other characters do much more questionable deeds, yet they bear comparitively little of the wrath of the readers.
You're Vietnamese? Lovely! One eigth Chinese? So one of your great-grandparents is from China? I've got no Asian blood myself, but I married an Asian.
I hope Cho at least appears in the last book in a favourable light.
I hope Cho Chang has another part in the last book too. She didn't appear much in the 6th. Though I doubt that would have a large part in the last one. Its just about Harry trying to find horcruxes most likely
One of my great-grandparents was Chinese. Though honestly, I can't say I do much Chinese related customs, but Vietnamese customs are similar. I just say I'm Vietnamese.
I hold on to some hope that the horcrux belonging to Rowena Ravenclaw would require Harry seeking some assistance from Cho, but alas, I think that might be the reason why Rowling introduced Luna...to have alternate token Ravenclaw.
I am so put off by Rowling's need to create only one Asian in the entire series, and to write her so poorly. Why even bother creating an Asian at all if only to vilify her?
Does your family eat Vietnamese food regularly? I dined at a Vietnamese restaurant when I was in the states, and I enjoyed it.
Hi, can I add another reason for hating Cho?eviltraceyAugust 13 2005, 20:51:43 UTC
Another justification that Cho-detractors give for hating Cho is her friendship with Marietta Edgecombe, who "ratted out" the DA. However, the only account that we are given about Marietta's betraying the DA came from Dolores "What Cornelius Doesn't Know Won't Hurt Him" Umbridge. Since when does anyone (other than Fudge) believe Umbridge? In the course of the book, Umbridge revealed herself to be unethical in her dealings with the students, and a liar, to boot

Brilliant! Very good observation! Silly that some one should shoot you down, as I think what you've said is entirely possible. Umbridge was written to be so evil, that at times she felt more like a caricature than a real character, and would probably resort to something as low as threatening Marietta.
And yes, I think the readers would have been a lot more understanding had Marietta been Ginny's, or even Hermione's friend, as the readers seem to let them get away with just about anything (i.e. Ginny crashing into the commentator's podium because she didn't like what Smith said, or Hermione employing such a hex that the student is scarred possibly for life...something akin to using a branding iron on some one).

Yes, I found the Ginny Sue post--well done! It pretty much said everything I've thought/ ranted on the lovely Ginevra M. Weasley since OOtP.
I was saddened to see that Cho and Marietta only warranted a smirk from Harry in HBP and that they were barely heard of again. It's interesting that Harry can feel sorry for Luna and Draco, but he can't feel any sort of compassion or empathy for Cho or Marietta. (Although I think maybe those things might just come with time.)

Did you find the Ginny-Sue post by the way?
