The Great Move of October 2004

On October 29th, I decided to relocate the tanks back upstairs since the heat of the summer no longer laps us. The last few weeks have been nice weather-wise, cool enough where I do not have to worry about the tanks overheating and slowly boiling my fish. I decided to place the freshwater tank at the end of the hallway. This tank is a little louder ( Read more... )

My mom and sister both call her Nemo. Clownfish usually start out sexless and then the larger one usually becomes the female, followed by the next in line as a male. The rest remain neutral until the need arises for a particular sex. If you remember Nixon's "Checkers" speech about his dog, the name may become more familiar. Nemo is just default now since the movie. Granted he has stripes not a checkered pattern, I like the name Checkers as a salute to Nixon's dog and the play on the emotions of the American populace he was able to manipulate.

So what's the plan for the catfish? If it gets any bigger, remind me to bring a club to protect myself.

It's actually the plecostamus that is the large fish you remember. It is overall harmless. A few times when my hand was roaming in the tank adjusting decorations, it tries to flaunt its muscle (giving me a start) and flaps/swims around with a vendetta; however, Serpico goes back to its usual hang out spot next to the heater (reminiscing about those warmer tropical waters?).
Unlike the previous pleco I had, this fellow doesn't soil my water as much. If it does get any more larger, I may have to donate it back to a pet shop like its predecessor.
