What kind of help do you need?

Anyway, I've kind of given up on listening to local radio for quite a while already. I find it too sanitised. Not brash enough (compared to radio stations overseas). And generally, the standard of radio presenters aren't really up to scratch, IMO.

Is boycotting radio considered as 'help'? Cos I'm already doing that....

I stopped listening to radio way back in my first year in mass comm at Ngee Ann - just got increasingly turned off at the insipid late-night dedications / love songs, and the never-ending "stay cool and funky" rubbish. I think I did listen to morning shows for a spell when I got a phone that had FM radio, 'cos they weren't quite as mind-numbing as most other radio programmes, but other than that... nope.

And yup, I'm intrigued, but what kind of help?

Have you considered setting up an internet-based radio station? While the reach isn't as much as say, normal radio but at least you'll be out there.

Yes and you don't have to be live. Just record the audio and release it as an mp3 with Bit Torrent to save you on bandwidth costs. There are some web providers out there with very low set up costs and high bandwidth.

I used to run a small pirate radio station broadcasting over the internet. While the idea of the use of recorded mp3s and releasing via bittorrent so that you can take it along with you is fantastic, but the whole thing about live radio is the ability to gauge the reactions via the calls coming in/reactions coming in so the dj can adjust accordingly, and on the listener's side, the fact that the dj is live out there...

Well, anyway, Joe, Sign me up for this. I see if I can hunt out some servers.

I listen to several podcasts.
  1. Engadget
  2. Coverville
  3. Dawn and Drew Show
  4. Adam Curry's Daily Source Code
  5. IT conversations
If these shows were live, I won't be able to listen to almost all of them since they originate from the other side of the world! Plus with the internet, you can always get feedback via email or responses to your web page.
