There's your seperation between church and state... and it was Thomas Jefferson who defined the Establishment Clause as "a wall of seperation between church and state" Hence the reason why America has tried, since it's establishment, to let people be free thinkers and not discriminate against minorities, we let everyone have a voice, and we let everyone have a mind of their own.... hence the democracy.
