I could be wrong, but I feel alot of people (ex. the people you are referring to here) only look for more friends simply for the sake of building up their "friends" list. It's like when people try to see how many people they can fit onto their AIM buddy list or myspace account. These all aren't necessarily friends, just more people they can say they know just so it looks like they have a ton of friends. The problem with this is they have a crap load of fake friends, but not a strong enough base of real friends. So to them it's ok to blow off some of these people cause they have a giant list to fall back on. In your case, they are making a huge mistake, as they are screwing up an opportunity to make friends with an awesome, interesting individual
