From the "did you plug it in" files.... My laptop does not have an optical drive and I bought an apple super drive to use with it. So I went to use it for the first time and couldn't get it to work - would spin then eject disc. Finally, after almost tearing my hair out, I called apple-care. Seems to me if you can't immediately tell the bottom from the top that the problem is Apple's design. Getting asked what was on the top 3 questions in sounds like this is such a common issue that they've incorporated it into their initial triage script.

I was really into user interface design while I was back in school and do see your point and it's a good one. Honestly, I'm not as embarrassed as I am amused and relieved that it was an easy silly problem to fix rather than a complicated and/or expensive one! :)
