Where and when did you buy the book? If you bought it recently from a normal store, you might be able to ask for a replacement, especially since you have pretty clear evidence of what the problem is. Having said that, I'm not good at being assertive about stuff like that (where's Fluttershy when I need her?)... and it's also only a useful solution under certain circumstances.
Depending on what the book is, you could also ask around and see if anyone else has a copy. Even if they don't live nearby, 8 pages isn't a lot to scan/photograph and send electronically.
The book was a gift from someone getting rid of books.
I guess I should ask around. I almost feel like this was my pathetic attempt to do so. My social networks are small=) Someone was telling me the other day I should ask in my circle of friends (I think it was for some kind of advice about getting someone to remodel the bathroom). I said that most of my friends are renting and they said doesn't hurt to ask. But I feel like there arn't a lot of people I'd ask. Maybe I'm thinking too small.
