Interesting thoughts. We'll have to talk about it sometime.
You do need to take it in context though, Jesus was a Jew. It's a lot of assuming to think that He would have knowledge of Tao (Greco-Roman religions, certainly, but--as far as I know--there was not a great link between the Asians and the Jews.)
I like the idea of Christianity as the purification of other religions, it fits into the idea of the "fulfillment" of the Covenant (the Law).
I've never been so sure of absolute truth anyhow. The whole concept makes me uneasy, because absolutes are so...absolute. I think that there is absolute truth, but we are unable to comprehend it--we're much too muddled in the gray of mortality.
But I'm sleepy and need to be outlining Mark, just wanted to drop you a note : )
Well, The fact that Christ was God would lead me to believe that he knew about tao, not to mention there was at least some link to Buddahism/Hindi and likely Tao as well, (Paul had wanted to go into Asia, and notably, he was allready in Asia Minor. Also Alexander the Great had conquered out to India, the primary seat of the Hindu religon, the areas around also had alot of buddahism and such religions
