There's a saying that if you're really good at what you do, and others find it valuable to them as well, you will always be able to find work doing that. Therefore, you must be good at what you do :)
I was also lucky myself. After being laid off for only a few weeks, I now work at a very small company in Mountain View doing Linux distro-packaging stuff for their appliance-box that they ship. It's a great job and the people I work with are very smart and also fun to be with. I've learned a lot. I hope I can keep the job for a long while: I'm only a contractor with them but would love to go full-time in the future if it continues to be such a good job.
