I am no where as savvy with the computers as you, ( I have actually referred to you as a computer "guru", rather embarrassing) but, i remember an old bit of info I heard about jpeg files, that the quality deteriorates the more you copy them. I have wondered about this and myspaz, the quality of saving, et cetera.

I like that you have goals of these, independent yet relevant to what ever else is going on in your life. :)

Hey there Coral, nice to see you on LJ too. I'm doing one post a day for the next month as an agreement with a bunch of friends of mine.

In regards to JPEG files, it's sort of true what you heard, the quality of JPEG files does not degrade as you copy them, it's just that the quality of the files themselves are pretty heavily compressed. The compression in JPEG files takes advantage of lots of quirks in our brains to achieve higher apparent quality at lower file sizes.

Curious to hear your thoughts. archive.org does good work in this area, but we have a long way to go. We're already losing old arcade games and such.
