What I'm worried about with Major Crimes is Raydor being turned into 'mommy'. I don't want her running around taking care of the kids. I don't want whoever this Rusty is defining her character. This is a crime show, not a family drama.
If this show allows for the other characters to be more present- I mean, the Closer was obviously about BLJ, while it seems MC is willing to expand over the whole team, and for us to see more into their lives. I think Sharon being their quirky boss won't be a big deterrent. She may be lead, but it's about more than her and I think that could be a big draw for Closer fans who were interested in the team; and might draw the casual viewer flicking through the channel.
The review that ran today in the Philadelphia Inquirer took major issue with Sharon as 'mommy.' It called her "mousy," "Mary Poppins on heroin" and "a sadistic kindergarten teacher disciplining naughty toddlers." :( I felt so bad reading it, especially after reading cat's post of concern here.
I hope Major Crimes survives, especially because there are more crime series on tv. MC has to be breathtaking and awesome, I hope we'll get to see more of the hard side of captain Raydor. Looking back on the episode that Raydor was introduced. I was sort of blown away by the power. It wouldn't be fun anymore if we see too much soft side of Darth Raydor.
But we'll see. I'm definitely watching here in The Netherlands at 3am. :)
However much power Raydor had, Brenda was always the winner, and Sharon had her finger on the reason: it wasn't Brenda's rank, it was her relationship with Pope. He always took care of Brenda, and Sharon could never come out on top.
Until now, and that makes a sad beginning for the new show.
