There oughta be a law

I think there should be a law that if the government runs commercials demonizing its opposition, it automatically triggers an election. Because clearly they're campaigning already.

I'm gonna keep hammering on this every time I see one of those damn commercials.

Mostly, I think, they are showing us what kind of slime they are.

It's the fact that their PR people thought that that add was going to be appealing to enough people that worries me.

That and the fact that I know people who think they are a good idea....

Election calls are now acting sort of like a Poisson process in Canada, except in the unlikely event that we hit a term limit. The fun thing about Poisson processes is that the expected time to an election is always the same (i.e. it's perpetually expected to be a few months away).

That being said, I think election spending limits should start being counted against the moment the previous election is over. That'd reduce some of this tomfoolery (until the Cons just ignore such a law, as they tend to do with election-related laws that are inconvenient).
