Maybe JJ has decided to follow the alleged tradition of every other Trek movie sucking.

But look, it's JJ Abrams. The man works best when surrounded with a lot of good scriptwriters, and even his impulse seems to be to flatten and simplify characters.

For a Star Trek reboot to work, you'd need a directing team - one for characterization and one with a restrained concept of action and special effects. Like Wes Anderson and Robert Rodriguez.

It was pretty crappy. But, it and Insurrection only sucked insofar as they were overplayed episodes of TNG rather than good stand alone movies.

Abrams is opening up a whole new "undiscovered country" of suck.
