I think it's a ridiculous over-reaction.

The really bad part is that the published cartoons weren't enough to incite the violence that the "leader" who started it wanted. He had to add worse things to them, including a photo run through a fax to make it look like a political comic. "Facts be damned just like all the other infidels who refuse to bow to my version of my religion. I want a riot, no matter what it takes!!!"
