its funny...whenever i meet a girl from niagara..who is at all younger than me..they seem to be into the local music scene.. and upon getting to know them I always feel like a huge "name-dropping" fag whenever I talk about my friends..most of whom are involved in the local music scene..and a large percentage of which are in bands that these girls ( Read more... )

the funny part is..you worked till 9

and i worked till after 10
haha..

ahh id say there are less skanks.

its maybe 50/50

and of the 50 who are skanks they are skanks for the guys who chose to take advantage of that..whereas i usually do not..

i have a penis..but im not a dick.

I think you are being too kind with that 50%, even the 75% for that matter...where there are bands, there will always be groupies (not to be confused with the FANS, who don't even put themselves in a position that lets a guy "take advantage" of them). The way a girl presents herself to you, "friend-of-the-band-guy", is VERY different from the way she does to anyone else...

maybe it's just me.. and it probably is but I don't find anything about the Welland or Niagara music "scene" appealing at all. For the most part all these bands i've heard of sound exactly the same and they all rip off styles of already famous bands.

As the years pass, everything becomes a ripoff of everything. So in my opinion, nothing is a "rip-off" anymore.

get it?

meh, thats what i think anyways. Eventually nothing will be original anymore, because everything will have been done already.

I understand that. But Welland especially is full of the exact same bands.. frankly I can't tell one from the other in that screamo style that everyone is going for.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. And this is mine.

Dead Only Better = not screamo
Ceremonial Snips = not screamo
A Day and a Deathwish = not screamo
Murder Thy Maker = not screamo
Andy Moog and the Sausage Party = not screamo
ITW = not screamo

im not even being biased because these bands are made up of my friends..but there is no way you can call any of those bands screamo..you have styles ranging from punk/ska fusion to hardcore to old school metal..

I think if you gave the scene a chance youd realize how off base your assumptions are.

ok so I realize i was wrong by saying screamo but I still stand behind MY opinion. I've heard ADAADW and various others mentioned and I don't care for it at all. The only band I even slightly liked was Dead Only Better. I still think alot of these bands sound alot alike - which yes again I do realize happens with all music. It's just my opinion and I don't feel like getting involved in yet another lj drama fight over stating how I feel yet again.

well if your afraid to defend your opinion dont share it.. Personally I could care less about other "lj drama fights" because they are none of my business.

The only reason I took any interest in this is because your making statements that are clearly untrue..You can dislike the bands all you want. But dont claim they sound the same..or are ripping off already famous bands when they really are not.

im not trying to fight with anyone..I didnt know having a discussion about something was the same thing as a drama fight?

Thank You.

You proved the point I was trying to make. I never said that any of these bands of were good or bad. I was just saying how I thought that they sound alot like everything else that is out there. The whole punk and heavy "hardcore" style is popular now and almost every single one of these bands is trying to capitalize on that in some form or another. And frankly in my opinion yet again, I don't think the world needs another Dashboard or Poison the Well.

I was just stating that the local scene is not appealing to me and that in my opinion the songs from these bands sound the same. I had the chance to listen to about 7 different songs awhile back from ADAADW and I really couldn't tell the difference from one song to the next, except for maybe slight differences.

Oh, and last I heard a person wasn't "wrong" for having differing opinions than someone else.

Cheers

well said.

the scene is going to shit, whether you believe it or not. there are SO many people coming out these days, but what happens when the trendwhores get over this fad and the rest of the bands are too big or too old to play here anymore. who's going to keep the scene going? there is no heart in it, and a scene needs a heart to survive. i would love to hear something totally different, or see the bands do something totally different. i was in st catharines a little while ago and I heard this girl, her stage name was "classic brown" i believe. she was so incredible and it was really refreshing to see someone who actually can sing. mind you, i don't mind the screaming, but it can get a bit old.

this is also coming from someone whos favorite band is bright eyes.

hooray for melodys.

:)
