I'm pretty sure now that it's really about people, not places or things. It might not be your parents' house, or your parents, or some places in the past, but it might still be those friends who owned those places. Or other people. I have a feeling you already know who, singular or plural, and you don't have to look far.
Also, independence isn't about not needing anyone. It's about being able to find what you need. Which I suspect you're pretty good at.
