Phone scam from windows

I believe I have just had a call from a cybercriminal. Some people calling themselves windows operating tech support centre wanted me to check my system logs for errors and when I found a few errors they claimed that this was evidence for massive infection of my system. I would occasionally get calls like this on a previous number. I always opened by telling them outright that they were wasting their time and they might as well ring off straight away, but if they didn't do so, I delighted in keeping them strung along for as long as possible, increasing their phone bill and protecting less clueful victims from being called.

I had one of those once. He tried to talk me through checking my system error logs, and must have been getting confused when I told him I didn't have such a menu option, etc.

Him: (can almost hear him rubbing his hands in glee) "Your system has been massively compromised, we can help you."

Me: (Sounding all innocent) "I use Linux. Is that a problem?"
