there is something so deeply wrong and sickening about the gun culture that is deeply entangled in policework. there are so many of them that are too violence happy, that choose violence as a FIRST resort, and not a FINAL resort.

While the gun culture may not be completely uninvolved in whatever is to blame here, I don't think it's one of the immediate or most prominent factors.

What strikes me as most wrong is that police involved in these sort of things seem to pretty much get away with it and that no good changes come out of such horrible cases of police force gone horribly wrong.

As a Religious studies major, one of the problems we've been trying to break from is the terrible love of violence. However, in order to inject order into any institution, society has always given or fallen under the power of a group to play parent. In this case, the police, to enforce law and human rights. But as with any power, how do you keep them in check?

Honestly, that's what's happened to the U.S.A.- we spend so much time policing the rest of the world on our terms and we're so used to being an uncheckable force...

It all makes me sick.

That was my question. The answer I arrive at is that it's up to us. It's up to the public and media to denounce such.. incomprehensible ineptitude, to pretty much call for public canings of all these idiots involved.
