I think my status in others' eyes has improved in the past simply because there was a guitar in my room. I couldn't play it at all, but it was still there.

you could totally be a bass player. What would be your motivation? It might be therapeutic to come home after a hard day and rip out a few window-shaking bass riffs. Plus "don't touch that green Acid, it's for the bass player."
