Sincere apologies to everyone close to me (physically, emotionally, technologically or transcendentally) for my complete and utter preoccupation with myself of late. I figure that it's for a short period, and then I can return to being a normal, balanced human being again (pffft).

It was a nice little coffee break wasn't it? You're spot on regarding the difficulty of discussing travel experiences. I've made up some canned answers to deal with the problem. One is:"Well, we went practically everywhere -- it was a round the world ticket. Long story I guess. [shut down further conversation]"
Another one I think I've already wheeled out for your benefit at some point:"It isn't necessarily apparent until you've had occasion to think of a place after having left it how much you learned. You realise that whatever total misconception of what it was like you once had has been blown away, and replaced by a real memory."
And other such stuff. I find that if I get into the details of specific things that we did, people's eyes tend to glaze over fairly quickly, unless it's in relation to places which they've also visited, or plan to visit. Most people have only asked out of politeness, so it's better to speak in concise, proverb-style generalities about the greatness of travel.

I hear you on the return travel conversations, and have had it echo'd by other traveling friends.

I also like Boucla! If you ever would like to get together there I would love to hear about your travels!

Awesome to spend some attention on yourself. You deserve it!

Returning is hard. My slogan "don't go back!", make it all anew.
