After working for 14 years with my company, Its time to go. My last assessment rating was - after 13 great ones - horrible and I'm leaving at the end of March or perhaps earlier. I don't think it was fair, but it seems that all involved (except me) have decided what sort of person I am. I have never worked so hard in my life only to be told that ( Read more... )

Your employer (the whole company) has a bit of a reputation for treating it's people poorly and I am sorry you have been given the shaft. If there is anything we can do to help, let us know - if you need references, you got them. You are one of the hardest working and nicest people I know and I am willing to say so. They do not deserve you.

Oh - get letters of recommendation from people who wrote glowing reviews in the past; that will easily refute the political BS you are in now.

Also, you may be pleasantly surprised what the market will pay for your skills, your employer also has a reputation for low-balling salaries for all but it's absolute star professionals. They once insulted me by suggesting a salary less than half my existing salary when I interviewed with them back in 1995.

You've got valuable skills, a boatload of experience, and a great attitude -- any employer would be fortunate to get you, and I'd be delighted to tell them so.

I think it's pretty obvious they've made a huge mistake. I hope that soon you can look back and it will be a blessing in disguise. Ugh. I'm sorry.

Just another "amen" comment to the ones above. It´s despicable that this is happening to you. I know (from my ill-fated newspaper career) what it feels like when an organization that you think you know and that you´ve done good work for turns into something completely different and doesn´t care about you anymore. It sucks, and it makes you feel blind-sided and at a loss.

But you know in your heart of hearts that you´ve given these folks your best for many years under really trying circumstances. So you´ve got that to be proud of. And you´ve got your years of good reviews and your obvious steadiness to prove to future employers that you´re worth taking on.

I´m sending you good wishes and good luck from down here in Guatemala. Sometimes taking a new turn can be the best thing for a rut-ridden life. :-)
