Carter called Kim to invite her and Leo over to meet his kitten, Rustic, and his friend Kathy. And also to find out what kind of pizza they wanted

"Yeah!" Leo holds out his arms and Carter puts the kitten into them. "He's a lot smaller than Elmo is now. Mama says that Elmo's a grown cat now but that he'll always be my baby just like I'll always be hers even when I'm an old man. That's gonna be a really long time though." He buries his face in Rusty's fur.

Kathy smiles at Leo, then to Kim. After a moment, she lowers her eyes shyly, becoming very interested in her shoes.

You had been improving she scolds herself silently. What is it about new acquaintances that frightens you so?

She looks back up to the others, this time a bit more confidently.

"Hi," she greets at last, in a manner so modern it is nearly convincing to herself.

"He's an adorable kitten, isn't 'e?"

"Hello, Kathy. Yes, he's very cute. We'll definitely have to bring Elmo over some time." Kim smiles at her, then puts her hand on Leo's shoulder. "Leo, Kathy said hello to you."

"'Lo." Leo looks up at her with big eyes, in awe as always around a 'big kid'. "How old are you? Are you older than ten? My friend Alex is ten, but I'm only six," he says with a little bit of pride at being friends with someone so much older.

"I'm twelve," Kathy responds, a slight tinge of colour in her face once more. It's not a lie...not really. She recovers quickly.

"Only six? I'd thought you were 'tleast eight," she smiles.
