Other options include Railroad Tycoon 2 if you can get it on cheap (it's probably less than a fiver on Steam).

If you don't mind the ascii or can download a decent tile set, dwarf fortress might be worth a look.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 is vastly better than all the rest and you get to ride your own rollercoasters :) I'm still addicted to it. The waterpark expansion's great fun too (grumbles about having not been able to find either expansion at home before I left Bath and surviving with just the basic one while I'm out here in Sheffield)
