This Old House

So,  in 2004 we moved into our dream house, a big, old, old, historical home with fireplaces & mantels and staircases and wood, lots of wood, etc.  A while back, we discussed replacing the tub in the main bathroom.  Not long after, occasionally, John would hear dripping while he was at his computer in his "office".  We could find no obvious leaks ( Read more... )

Oh NOES!!! I'm glad you caught it before something more horrible happened. Things that happen in walls, ceilings, floors...those things scare me.

You think that's scary, you should see what we found after opening up the bathroom floor!

Oh joy!! I feel your pain. My house is only about a hundred years old.

Every project morphs and multiplies into something much more.

As for showering... up the chlorine in the hot tub?
That was a joke.

But seriously, the hot tub has lots of clean hot water if a little heavy on the chlorine. You can make do until the plumber finish by scooping out water for shower/baths on the porch.

I guess you didn't notice, there is a shower in the pool room.
The kids do want a screen of some sorts, the don't like to shower in a room full of glass walls. LOL

Nope totally missed that shower, probably too busy starring at the pretty lights on the ceiling.

oh, right... Healthy sense of modesty... heard of it, never actually used it. hmm,
there is always the "shower while dressed" thing.
It clean your clothes the same time you clean yourself!
course you get dizzy when you use the dryer.

Thanks. It's amazing what people will do. We found two parts of the original floor: real nice thin oak. Somewhere along the line it was cut out, including the original sub-floor, to install pipes. Ouch! There were three layers of floor. From what we found it looks like work was done in early 1940's, again in late 50's early 60's, then early 80's.

And I'm not even going into the whole electrical thing!

Yes, we love this old house.

Just to mention, that when it was redone at some time the sink, tub etc were moved. The old pipes are all still under the floor, just cut. and the waste line for the toilet is solid Pb, real plumbing!
