John cranes his neck back, catching an upside down glance of his husband. "Shit, I didn't mean to wake you," John says.
He feels bad about that, but it doesn't stop the smile from crossing his face. It aches, sometimes, how much he loves his husband, but with the weight of the world of off him, it's almost like the pure joy it used to be.
John sits up, scrubs a hand through his hair. "Yeah, I did," John says, and shrugs like it's no big deal. "Went to a pub, played some pool. You know."
John sits back against the cushions a bit. "Yeah, it -- getting out is good," he agrees. He waves a hand absently through the air. "I miss having friends. Doing stuff. I know you probably hate it, but I'm glad Toad's back."
John thought he'd hate it too, that connection to his old life, but it wasn't about that. Not at all, it never came up, and that was good. And bothersome, a bit, but John tries to focus on the good.
