My studio has been a refuge for me of late, both from the heat and just, I dunno...  from the world in general outside of art...and so I've used it frequently.  I spend the week looking forward to the weekend...

The outside world interferes with my art process.  That might sound like a given, but I know that  lot of artists feed on what is ( Read more... )

that idea that the outside world interfers with your artistic vision-VERY MUCH SO

I'd love to see the pictures when they are back up.

It's good and bad... if I move too successfully into art, I run the risk of becoming a recluse or worse... a misanthrope. :)

But I notice that especially when I come out of the studio... everything seems so loud.. and people seem so harsh... and everything really smells funny.... it's an odd experience each time...

Hello...I followed your blog from your profile on EBSQ. The crow piece almost looks more like an ibis (or maybe I've been watching too much History Channel!)....anyway I added you to my friends list and have admired your work for some time now...

a-HA! An ibis! you know, that fits...

I've noticed that myu work moves along in themes... and then when I'm on a theme, I seem to see it EVERYWHERE... Egypt has been that theme recently, along with birds... it never occurred to me to bing the two together. :)

Thanks for your kind words...

It was the first thing that came to mind when I saw it....I'd recently watched a show on Egyptian mummies and they had numerous mummified animals featured from different museums around the world. There was a team of scientists that would x-ray the mummies for research purposes. Turns out there was quite a lot of fraud in the mummy business in ancient times and the ibis mummy was genuine, but the mummy of a falcon was a complete fake with no bones at all visible on x-ray.....

John, I'm soooooooo glad you are in the zone!

I would have to agree, I pull from the inside for my pieces as well. Mine are all mostly an inner expression of my moods, and feelings (and occassionally my sense of humor). Since I come from a world where their are only three emotions (sad, mad, happy) my artwork has been a great emotional growth process for me. It's kinda awkward to let people into that little world isn't it?

The new pieces are fabulous, and I can't wait to see the new illustrations!!!

it is so funny that txkink said it reminds him of an ibis! that's exactly what i thought. it's funny how things work in life - even the little things. for instance, i saved a photo the other day (thinking it was a great reference) and guess what it was?...

an ibis.
it's great to hear you're in the creating mode :)
and i can relate to being in the studio for so long that when you finally emerge, you feel almost alien. sometimes i have a hard time talking - like i forgot how to :)
