Very interesting. So to paraphrase the TV comedy 'Ballot Monkeys', you're asking people to decide on a question, they don't fully understand, that no one knows the answer to.
Both highly the limitations of democracy - its very difficult to put complicated choices in a referendum (which is usually binary - 'yes / no'); and the voters are often not best placed or informed to make the decision.
As the Greek philosopher Plato highlighted, democracy can be pejorative as you the most popular position or person can win, as opposed to the most informed or able. Thankfully we don't vote for pilots.
