We won't ever have a war with China, at least not in the foreseeable future. It's just not realistic. The fact of the matter is, they could completely ruin our economy just by refusing to lend us anymore money. If they actually called in our debt, our economy would completely collapse. Fortunately, they won't ever do this, and no other country would let them, since it would cause a worldwide depression the likes of which we've never seen, but it does mean that for now, we can't be overtly hostile to them.
Just so you know, the Gallup poll for the US that was just released asked the question "Does the earth go around the Sun, or does the Sun go around the earth?" Only 73% of the people polled got it right. Of the ones who did get it right, only 70% knew that it took a year to do so, rather than a day, a week, or a month (the other options given). Unfortunately, it looks like you can't use the past tense when talking about that idea.
Also, I should mention that Ron Paul goes way beyond traditional conservative values; he's just smart enough not mention it in a public forum like the GOP debates
