Right now I'm hoping that Eternal Sonata is ported over to the PS3 (since, if things go right, I'll order one this weekend) - otherwise, I guess I can wait a year.
I'll probably rent it from Gamefly but the game, based on the demo I played, is so incredibly by the books that it's sad. It goes back to a time where everything was cliche and grinding was the way of the world.
It was made to be a generic-as-hell JRPG (with Akira Toriyama stylings) so as to help sell the console in Japan. And it did a better job of that than anything else has. So, hey, mission semi-accomplished.
It's not Sakaguchi's continuation of Final Fantasy; that's Lost Odyssey. This is... well, sort of a follow-up to Chrono Trigger. Except more deliberately conservative.

Last I heard of it it was a 'solid but so very cliche :V' game.
