I'm actually working towards having a version of my "ideal" job someday. I'd like to be either a translator or interpreter in English, Spanish, and French. If I could do any kind of T/I, I'd pursue audiovisual translation, doing subtitling and dubbing and such for movies, tv shows, dvds, etc. I can't imagine there is a big demand for that kind of work, so realistically I'll probably do business/legal translation and interpretation.
Cool. I'd thought about being a translator way long ago. I've never been able to achieve anything close to fluency in Spanish, although if it's written I can halfway work out what was said. I do love the sound of other languages, though. And I applaud you for going after what you want!
I'd still want to be something in the journalism arena, as I began with...but alas, life didn't turn out that way. And honestly, in some respects I'm glad, because if I were still at the newspaper, I'd never be able to have bought my condo. But, am I passionate about my work? No. So, yeah.
