I like women characters in film and will anxiously go see a film that seems like it has strong women characters or strong women actresses because complex woman characters, like any complex characters, are arresting and interesting. It's even (shockingly) better when the women character have their own development outside of relationships to men and are not just underwritten sisters, mothers, lovers, or shrews. Just like it's shockingly better when male characters are developed and not, yaknow, flat and uninteresting.
That's what boggles my mind is that for some folks (many?) sexism is so ingrained they don't even notice if a female character is underwritten, cuz women are so often consigned to the background as characters. :/
I do like romantic comedies though. French Kiss is still one of my favorite movies. :D
