Enter deck design software.

For what this project is going to cost you, you're not willing to shell out anything for the software to design it?

I have no problem with shelling out $$ for software to do a task, but the Lowe's applet does almost everything a homeowner would need and is very easy to use, so why bother. Looking at it from a marketing perspective (which is really what this is about), Lowe's approach comes out on top. Next.Next.Yes.Finish-->Deck plans (complete with HOA approved minutiae)

That said, I'll probably download the HD software anyway, just as a comparison. I could also go out and spend much bigger $$ on 3D Deck Designer Alpha III Pro Ultra EX, but I've been down that path before, and it's not a pleasant place.
