Okay, so my subjects kinda false. Marching band is not bad, theres just things about it that i liked better last year. Now i could sit here complaing about how much i don't like certain aspects of Marching Band, but that will not accomplish anything, and ill save that for lator when i need to vent about it. But i will address some issues that ( Read more... )

Good points. I've been saying it for a while just in casual conversation that we NEED to be NICE to the middle schoolers. For some reason we get it in our heads that they suck when they really don't by any means. Yes, they'll bring Homicz' barbary and whatever other random song he picks, but that's no reason to completely disregard them as a whole. There definitely needs to be a formal announcement about that, and especially tell the freshmen to talk it up because they're obviously closer to them than the rest of us. We've also started discussing ways to recruit them in 8th grade orientation and when we go down to talk to them sometime in the spring ( ... )

Hey Jonny, its Kirsten. I just wanted to comment that I love what you said about the 8th graders. I've a heard a lot of people talk about how we need to get the 8th graders interested in marching and whatnot. But they always say that they need to *tell* them how much much it is. Yes, that's a good start. But I love the fact that you said you wanted to actually sit down and talk to them, be nice to them, make them feel appriciated and needed, and actually show them that it's an *amazing* organization...rather then just beating into their brains that it's fun. So thanks for that! Keep spreading your ideas, stay positive, and hopefully you'll inspire others, especially the up coming freshman. (oh, and i hope you don't mind if I add you as a friend?)

ah johnny, you pretty much hit everything that needs to be done in band. hopefully by chapters at least everything will be on the right track, and it'll all be good. about the 8th graders, we just have to make it fun, sure the uniforms may not look the greatest, and sure, we may not play the greatest, (esp. my happy birthday) but it's about the group, and when there's more people, it's great. 13 seniors is a lot, and if 23 freshman join, unlikely, but there's always wishful thinking, even 17 would be wonderful. but at the end of the year, we discussed this somewhat tonight, we need to go down to the middle school and just wow the pants off those kids and tell them to join! i need to study for apgap. see you tomorrow.
