Noirish Sound and Fury

Boy, was I disappointed by Hollywoodland. The one word that sums up the entire film for me is "tedious." It is one of those films that is just a little over two hours, yet it seemed to stretch on for eternity! The whole tone of the film screamed out for comparisons to many of the best L.A. neo-noirs, from Chinatown to L.A. Confidential, but ( Read more... )

Well, that's it then; I'm not seeing Hollywoodland unless it hits the buck theater, if at all. Unless, of course, my gal still wants to see it, and then I really have no choice! ;)

I'm especially thrilled about your writing! I knew you can do it, but I'm very happy you are! :) :) :)

Have a great week, my friend.

Shalom, y'all!

I still want to see Black Dahlia as well. I hope it's not disappointing. I don't know if I can handle two bad neo-noirs in one month!

Thanks for the encouragement, and keep cracking the whip periodically:)

Sorry to hear the film was disappointing. I'll probably wait on it, too, then. I do love Adrien Brody, though.

Congrats! I've never written a dissertation, but I know how tedious and painful my undergrad thesis was. I have a deep love for it now, but that definitely developed ex post facto.

Adrien Brody is one of my favorite actors--one of those who is worth seeing even in otherwise bad movies. (Although even that couldn't get me to see The Jacket!) To me, he is the actor Edward Norton was always hyped to be.

And thanks for the congrats. Sadly, I never managed to finish my undergrad thesis (which wasn't necessary for graduation, just to graduate with honors), so I do not yet know the love you speak of;)

He is terrific. I didn't like The Village, but he was still wonderful in it, even if the whole time I thought he should have been the romantic lead.

Mine was required for graduation, or else I probably never would have done it. I think it either becomes your baby or your enemy.
