Even Better Than Overheard Conversations

Another subbing day, so another way-too-early post...

Borat? I was underwhelmed. When Entertainment Weekly puts you on the cover with the headline, "Is This the Funniest Movie Ever?", and Rotten Tomatoes has you at 93% approval, you've got to be better than this. Yeah it was funny, a few times hysterically so, a few times simply simply in ( Read more... )

Aww, the poem is truly awesome. I used to write poetry about breakups, too, though I do think mine was slightly better than that. It's funny how something like ending a relationship with a guy you've been dating for three months seems like the end of the world.

I liked Borat more than you did but not as much as a lot of people, I guess. I like Ali G. better, but I don't know how you'd do a movie of him.

How is subbing? It's something I've thought about doing.

Subbing is okay. You don't get to do much teaching, as most teachers leave worksheets, etc., for the students to do, but I enjoy interacting with the kids. I've subbed in both middle and high school, and I like middle school better so far.

I'm glad people like reading the poem so much--I almost feel protective of it now...

I love the closing line of the poem: "I love you and goodbye." It almost has a sarcastic tone to it--like the David Spade airline attendant's "buh-by."

And goodbye.

What I really love is that the author says, "There's just one thing I never got to say...", and then proceeds to say those two things...

Having smirked, though, I already feel guilty turning up the corner of my mouth at the young person's pain, however sadly expressed.

Besides, I'm glad few copies survive of my high school poetry... :)

While I really enjoyed Borat, some of the hype has been pretty crazy. Best comedy of the decade? Really? Hmmmmmmm....

Shalom, y'all!

It is sadly expressed, and yet I'm actually touched by it in a strange way.

I want to understand why she thinks he "took the coward's way out." Sadly, she didn't write her name in the book. Maybe that's not a tragedy. I'd probably try to contact her to get the full story and be reported as a psycho stalker or something...

At this point, we've all put more thought into this poem than the girl probably did when she wrote it. What fools we academics be!
