It's a Very Berkeley Thanksgiving

Yup, having Thanksgiving at chazellik's house with fellow lost souls Stephen Bor and My Sister. We went hiking in the Oakland hills this morning, the air steeped in the vapor of bay laurels and madrone. The turkey is organic. The eggnog is spiked. All and all, a great Berkeley time in Berkeley

this is my first thanksgiving away from my family, and neither of us (my roommate and i)know how to cook for only two people. this is also my favorite holiday because it only involves appreciating the things in your life... none of the buying gifts and cards crap. cheers!!

We have a potluck thanksgiving, and so there's a LOT of food, but the highlights included:

Ham
Turkey
Stuffed Mushrooms
Escalloped Broccoli and Corn
Green Bean Casserole
Cranberry Chutney/Sauce/Jelly-from-a-can (which I use to carve into sculptures... it's a great artistic medium and has given me such masterpieces as a bust of abraham lincoln and [this year] a cornucopia)
Various types of potatoes/yams
Salad with persimmons, apples, pears, pecans, feta and other good stuff
Cranberry Apple Pie
Olala Berry Pie
French Apple Pie
2 types of Pumpkin pie

I love holidays centered around eating...

Haha Olala is a type of berry that you can pick in the bay area. Our hostess picks them by the bushel every year and makes jars of homemade jams (and a thanksgiving pie). They're a little tart, but really wonderful.
