Indicators of Spring

I've been watching the world a little more closely lately, looking to see when it's safe to call the season "Spring." Temperature can fluctuate, and has been fluctuating, so it has to be ruled out as an indicator. And everything I used to rely on in Massachusetts no longer applies. For example ( Read more... )

Nobody gives a fuck about your "seasons" in the Bay. Move to Chicago, we'll teach you about seasons.

I AM A NEW ENGLANDER. I EAT CHICAGO'S SEASONS FOR BREAKFAST. I know you're relatively new to this journal, but I've been griping about the oversubtleness of California's seasons for two years, so there's some precedent to be understood. But unless you are originally from Buffalo or Alaska or the Yukon Territory, do not ever question my understanding of winter ever again. I have the scars.

Oh yeah? How many times did you scrape ice off of your windshield this month? And last month? And the month before? My fingers don't even thaw out between the morning and evening commute anymore.

And BTW, my friends from Boston tell me that it was NEVER this bad there.

You know I had to spark it up with "originally from Buffalo." Esp. when you compare us to the Fucking Yukon. So we're getting another 10 inches tonight. So what? I'll live spring through your crazy toupees.

The kudzu hasn't turned green here yet.
The bibs of daffodils are showing. We've got the pink upstarts and a few eager forsythia swizzles. This morning, I caught sight of the first saucer magnolia, budding purple and white.Just a week or two more....

It's supposed to snow again tonight; I keep forgetting that spring doesn't come visit this coast until summer is starting in California.

Also, scaups are the shit. I miss birds.
