christian- how close can you plant 30 gallon live oaks to each other without them killing each other? these are about 10-12 feet, and they're charging 1530 for 4 of them and two myrtle crepes. good deal?
$1,530 is a little high, but it's okay. You're mainly paying for services there, but if you don't know how to plant your own trees, it's worth it to get it right.
As a rule, the absolute minimum between oaks should be 21' from the centers of the trunks. But live oaks get fucking huge; You'd be well off with a minimum of 25' or more. Better to have the gaps between canopies close in later in life than spend the next 100 years pruning them to keep the branches from killing each other. I wonder how enormous your yard must be to be able to fit 4 live oaks and two crepe myrtles (a beautiful tree, by the way, and very common in Texas; I'm embarrassed I didn't think of them).
