About a month ago I ordered several CDs. Two from Amazon marketplace (or whatever the fuck) and one from Half.com (by ebay). The two I ordered from Amazon got here in about a week. I've seen neither hide nor hair of the half.com (by ebay) CD.
So after the 'delivery period' is up, I try to contact the seller from half.com (by ebay). No response. A couple of days later, I try again. No response. I say 'Fuck this', and file a claim with half.com (by ebay). I get no response (from either party). I contact my credit card company (no Paypal, fuck you guys) and have them open an investigation, and email half.com (by ebay) informing them that I intend to dispute the charges (credit card bill hasn't closed yet). I get an email back almost immediately. I'll C&P the relevant parts here:
Additionally, I understand your frustration with this matter, and would
like to help in any way that I am able, however I noticed that you
mentioned disputing the charges with your credit card company, and would
like to briefly address this to try and avoid any undue complications.
Because of the nature of purchasing on the Half.com site, chargebacks
affect the community in a harsh way. For this reason, we have had to
implement strong policies. Buyers that dispute charges with their credit
card may face suspension of their account.
I laughed.
The seller I tried to buy from has a pretty shitty feedback record, so I emailed half.com (by ebay) back and said that if they can't protect me from unscrupulous sellers then I will protect myself.
Aside: I know I should have checked the feedback before I ordered, but, in my defense, the seller has a large (positive) feedback; it's only in the last few months that the feedbacks turn to shit (never shipped, no contact, etc.).
I got an email today that did a bit of backpedaling; no threats of suspension, just pleading with me to reconsider. I said 'Fuck that'. My response:
I appreciate your attempt to adhere to half.com's regulations, but
you're not really listening.
The seller has a terrible feedback record. In the past month, it has
almost as many negatives and neutrals as positives. If half.com
cannot do anything to protect me from sellers like this, I will do it
myself, even if that entails disputing credit card charges.
In fact, on inspection, I notice that the people who are no longer
registered users left feedback indicating they didn't receive their
merchandise either (on the first feedback page--ed). Did they dispute charges?
Anyway, a brief bit of amusement in an otherwise dull situation.
