And why the sea is boiling hot....

Ahem.

Baxter's in trouble. Not like his normal, mischief-induced trouble, either.

I don't remember if I related the story of Baxter and the dog owned by the twat across the street, but it goes thusly: A twat across the street walks his dog around with no leash, and once, about 3 months ago, when the missus and I were out with our dogs, it attacked Baxter without warning. Since then, they have not got on well. It has charged us twice (since I usually walk Baxter, I deal with it), and once, when I was letting a friend of mine in the house, Baxter got out and, having run down the road a ways, found it outside (again, off the leash) and proceeded to deal out a beating which had the dog running away.

Now, I'm not a fan of my dog fighting, but as far as I could tell, that dog had it coming. It had previously attacked my dog (and I was caught in the middle), and, while I wasn't happy about Baxter fighting, I wasn't displeased with the ass-kicking he gave out.

However.

We had Easter dinner at our house Sunday, and my brother brought his dog (Buddy) over. Baxter and Buddy had met once before, right after we got Baxter. This time, though, they became involved in a dispute over a dog toy, which happens with dogs. But Baxter wouldn't let the fight go. He kept after Buddy until they left. Worrying, yes, but we had 12 people and 3 dogs in our house, so we thought he was just worked up because of the crowds.

This morning, I was awakened by connieorigami: "Get up....Baxter's got in a fight and made another dog bleed."

She was taking our dogs out before leaving for work, and had gotten tangled up in Sage's leash. And Baxter had chosen that moment to pull. This caused her to lose her grip on his leash, following which he promptly took off.

The other dog involved is about 50 or 60 pounds, or about twice as large as Baxter. When they have seen each other in the common areas, they bark at each other, as dogs are wont to do. They also strain at their leashes in an attempt to "get at" one another. However, it wasn't until today that I knew it was an aggressive act.

I don't know what to do. After this, we can't just do nothing. We can't give him away, either. It'd be like giving away an old Claymore--who knows when he would go off? And we can't have him attacking any dogs that happen to be in the yard.

connieorigami is extremely upset. If we can't keep him and we can't give him away, that leaves but one option. Neither of us want that. He's never been aggressive towards humans, but I don't want to wait until he is (we have a niece and nephew that are both in single-digit ages).

Fuck. I apologize if this update doesn't really make sense. I'm finding it a bit tough to order my thoughts correctly.
