Well, right is top and left is bottom generally. According to the appendix to Trevor Jacques' On the Safe Edge red is fisting, red polka dots is menstruating women, red with white stripe is shaving . . . says nothing about checks or plaids.

There seems to be some disagreement from my sweetie - he reckons right is bottom and left is top. Maybe it differs country to country? You'd think there'd be an international standard for important things like this! Can't have Katie Holmes thinking I was flagging for something I wasn't flagging for! ;)

I love the evocative nature of those patterns - red spots on white! red and white stripes! Hee!
