Stay on the lookout for Engrish! Supposedly it's rather common. I don't know for sure though being that I've never actually been to Japan, just seen posts on Engrish.com
I kept half an eye open for Engrish while I was there, but never really saw any. The one exception is maybe the "We can do it!" signs with nondescript black guys in the casino windows.
Asakusa is really cool. Did you get to see the Senso-Ji temple or the Yodobashi-Akiba electronics store? The pedestrian mall outside the temple is great for shopping.
And I totally agree about the way they wrap their gifts. Every time someone wrapped a tea set it was like origami with wrapping paper.
I definitely saw the Senso-Ji Temple. Was it under construction when you were there? It was under construction when I was there. The market was pretty cool. I wanted to try the various food, but I went there my first day and was still full after my flight.
